Lesson 1. Time is your most valuable resource.
According to successful people, time is the most valuable and important resource. For them, time is precious, and it holds more value than any tangible or intangible asset known to man. But the important question is, why is time so important to them? Well, the answer is very clear, time once lost can never be recovered.
Kevin Kruse, as a CEO, had to deal with constant interruptions and problems. Annoyed by this, he put up a sign that read “1440”. Each day has 1440 minutes, and Kruse saw this as 1440 minutes of probable success. This allowed him to focus on the most crucial tasks first. The people around him noticed this, and started using his approach as well.
Due to this, efficiency and effectiveness improved throughout the organization. To confirm this theory, Kruse interviewed other successful people as well. According to his studies, it was found that other high achievers too have a similar kind of mindset. Money and other assets can be recovered, and mistakes can be rectified. But time once lost can never be recovered.
Lesson 2. “Find out about your most important task” and prioritize it.
Now that we have figured out how important time is, the next step is to prioritize it. This is where the second secret comes into play. Recognize your most important task, or your MIT. This particular task is likely to have a huge impact on your life. The productivity of a person is determined by his ability to prioritize tasks and actions. Figuring out your MIT is the key to successful time management.
High achievers and productive people try to focus on their most important goals. Once this is figured out, they try to accomplish them first, before moving to the next task. In simpler words, productive people always have their priorities sorted. They make sure that there is a balance of short term and long term goals, and the most important tasks are finished first.
Established and successful CEOs have confirmed a theory. The brain reaches its true potential and works best during the first couple of hours in the morning. Airbnb CEO Nathan Blecharczyk utilizes this productive burst of energy to focus on the most important priorities. Utilizing this time and getting a head start allows a person to relax and think in a more rational way.
