Lesson 1. Poor diet is the major cause of premature death.
In today’s fast-paced world, along with technology and social lives, our eating habits have changed drastically. Poor diet and unhealthy habits cause health issues. That’s a given. But, in most cases, following a poor diet could also lead you to your death bed.
According to a study published by the American Journal of Medicine, poor diet is the number one reason for many deaths. When autopsies of over 42,000 bodies were carried out, it was found that most of them died due to health issues rather than old age.
Yet, the study of nutritional values is not taken seriously at medical schools. A survey was conducted by the National Academy of Sciences in 2010. It revealed that less than 27 percent of the medical schools in America gave the required number of hours in nutritional instructions.
As a result, the lack of vital nutrition education begins during training for many American physicians. This makes it hard to treat issues like obesity, diabetes, malnutrition, and many other health problems on a societal level.
Due to these reasons, it comes as no surprise that America has the highest prescription drug market in the world. As more doctors started to prescribe drugs, it became common and rather easy for people to opt for chemical drugs.
Lesson 2. A plant-based diet is better than pills.
The main causes of death in the United States have changed quite significantly in the last century. In the olden days, people were more prone to infectious diseases such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, and diarrhea.
These were the major causes of death. As time changed by, people became more susceptible to chronic diseases such as heart attacks, stroke, and cancer.
With the development of antibiotics and improved hygiene, rates of infectious diseases are reduced. The increase in the consumption of animal-based and processed foods increased the rates of chronic diseases.
According to a study by the American Journal of Nutrition, people who ate meat had a lower life expectancy rate than people who didn't. This led to the belief that vegetarians are healthier than non-vegetarians. In regions where people followed plant-based diets, the issues of obesity and heart diseases were surprisingly low.
Not only does the plant-based diet prevent and treat health issues, but it can also reverse them. This claim was studied and found to be true through various smokers and heart-disease patients.
However, most of the doctors find it easy to prescribe a drug rather than advocating plant-based diets. Plant-based
