Lesson1- So What is this Podcast?

Before embarking upon how to start a podcast, one thing must be understood quite clearly. Podcasting is a very hard job and can leave you completely confused. However, that does not mean that it is an impossible task. So first things first, you need to ask yourself a question: Why is it that you want to start a podcast?

It may seem like a very simple question or a very difficult one. Irrespective of such concerns, there may be several responses in your head. However, if your response is because everybody else is doing it, then it is not a good enough response. You need a much better reason to start a podcast than simply doing it because others are doing it. Here are a few data retrieved from the Edison Research Podcast Consumer study, 2018 that you must keep in mind while deciding your audience.

  • Nearly 70 percent of podcast listeners are aged between 18 and 54.
  • The ratio between males and females is almost equal.
  • Podcast listeners tend to have a higher level of educational attainment.
  • 51 percent of podcast listeners earn between $75,000 and $150,000 per year.

Next, you need to decide what will be the content of your podcast. The content will have to be in line with a theme. You need to understand that it is a crucial element of your podcast creation. Therefore, you must give the subject matter a proper structure. Be sure that your theme is not a vague one but specifically points out what the podcast will be about.

One task for you is to find inspiration in the right places. Inspiration can come from any
