Lesson 1. Perfection and Imperfections.

We struggle with finishing what we have started. This does not mean that we are lazy or incompetent. It is because of perfectionism. Perfectionism stops us from progressing. At the nucleus of perfectionism lies a desperate attempt to live up to the hype of impossible standards.

There are ample things in life which are not perfect at all. And this is absolutely fine. The activities that made people increase their progress drastically, were the ones that took the pressure away and helped to get rid of toxic perfectionism.  It is because of perfectionism that people quit when they cannot attain unrealistic goals. Whether they are trying to lose weight, write more content on a blog, or get a raise, the aftermath is the same in all these cases. People become more productive when they are not trying to be perfect. Most of our outcomes have proven that trying harder isn’t the answer, and struggling more isn’t the solution. “Chronic starters can turn out to be consistent finishers.”

If you want to finish what you have started, you have to get rid of perfectionism. You should enjoy what you are doing. The path towards your goals should unfold big adventures. We focus a lot in the beginning and lose focus as we move forward. Moving forward imperfectly actually serves us far better than pursuing perfectionism.

Always keep in mind that if you are not being perfect, it does not mean that you are a failure. This is not true. Failing once means, you get to try again, learn from past mistakes and improve yourself each time.

Unfortunately, perfectionism withers slowly. It’s rigid and particularly destructive, more so because it is disguised as excellence.

Lesson 2. Cut Your Goals in Half.

Cutting your goal in half feels like cheating, but it works. It increases your desire to work more on your goal. It uplifts your spirit to continue because the goals seem attainable. Keep in mind that perfectionism tries to convince you that the results are not good enough and you should give up.

Research says people who took shortcuts, actually ended up completing their work. Goals should not be seen as marathons when they are actually sprints. Set realistic goals, and when you begin to achieve those goals, it will motivate you to continue. If you succeed at achieving a small goal that you want to achieve at the end of one month, you’re more likely to do a little more the next month and achieve even more. In a year,
