Lesson 1. Accept that life is hard.

Yes. Life is hard. It's not easy. That's the bitter truth. But the sooner you understand it, the sooner you will be able to get over it. To face the challenges life throws at you, it is extremely important to stay disciplined. Only when you are disciplined, you will be able to face the problems directly and deal with them.

Change is inevitable. Expecting the same status quo to continue indefinitely is ludicrous. Times change, people change and along with all that, you should change yourself too. Don't despair. Instead, take it up as a challenge. Think of every day as a new set of possibilities and try to find solutions.

Instead of blaming others for bad results, take responsibility for your wrongdoings. The truth is uncomfortable yet real. Even though it might appear to be rigorous, one must pursue the truth at all times. Stay true to yourself and go after it.

The book deals with the four major principles to follow to attain personal spiritual growth; which is discipline, love, religion, and grace. And as many people don't tend to follow the path, it is referred to as the road less traveled. Understanding and applying the rules and principles in your everyday life will lead you positively on your journey to spiritual growth. Read on to find out how.

Lesson 2. Discipline.

Real discipline requires you to accept the responsibilities of our own life. Discipline means being truthful, accepting responsibility, and striking a healthy balance in life. Delayed gratification also plays a part in self-discipline. In general, delayed gratification refers to 'enjoying the moment'. This mostly works on human impulses.

Being honest and truthful to situations around you is also a key tool in improving your self-discipline. Because, when you tell the truth, you wouldn't have to remember the lies. This requires a strong sense of one's views and perspectives.

Balancing is by far the most important requirement for self-discipline.  Maintain a healthy balance between your personal lives and professional lives. Take time to do things that you enjoy doing. Add a certain thrill to your life. Let go of all the negative vibes and unhealthy habits, and work towards attaining self-discipline.

The author quotes a certain example from his own life. At a certain point in his life, when Scott was completing his psychiatric training, he was furious that he had to work longer than his colleagues. When asked, his director said "It's not my problem. It's your problem with time."That upset Scott even more. But then he came
